April 22nd - 26th

This week, in honor of Earth Day, the kindergarten class planted flowers in pots which we placed on the school patio for everyone to enjoy!

In math class, some friends are working hard on adding using the Montessori Bank Game and some friends were introduced to the Montessori Stamp Game which is a similar version of the Bank Game.

Over the last few weeks, some of the students worked on special projects to go along with stories from our reader.  One group read the story, Sam's Big Fish.  The story was about a boy who was having a special fish day at school.  The students in the story had to make a fish using any materials.  The kindergarten students were given the same assignment.  Each student was allowed to pick any material to create a fish.  Some used construction paper, some used water color, and others used play dough to create their fish!

Another group of students read, No Lions and Tigers.  The story was about a lion who needed to visit the dentist but was afraid.  The dentist was afraid of lions and tigers.  The kindergarten students created a puppet to represent their character.  Puppets were made out of socks, paper bags, and construction paper.  The students performed a small puppet show for our friends in Nursery, PK, and First through Third.  They were all a terrific audience!

This week our student reader was Salli!  Salli read, You Can Do It, Pout-Pout Fish! by Deborah Diesen.  The story was about a fish who wanted to make a painting without any help.  He didn't think he could do it but in the end, he did a great job.  Salli did a fantastic job reading the story and the audience was great!

April 15th - 19th

This week the kindergarten class has been working on telling time to the hour and half hour using an analog clock and comparing it to digital time.  Some students are working on counting by five minute intervals on the analog clock.  Challenge your children at home by asking them, what time is it?

Our students continue to work on creating sentences about spring using the Montessori Movable Alphabet.

This week the kindergarten participated in an Easter Egg Hunt!  We had a great time searching the field and playground areas for plastic eggs!  Each child had to gather ten eggs and hand them in for some special prizes!  Thank you to Mrs. Mossor, Mrs. Mueller and the Eighth Grade class for organizing this event.

Alexa was our guest reader today!  She read, Magic Colors.  This story was fun to hear and see.  Each page could turn into a different color!  Alexa was a great reader and the audience enjoyed the book.

Spring is in the air!  With the weather warming up and the rain drying up, the students were able to enjoy outside recess without coats and lots of running and playing on the field!

Some students have created sentences about spring and what they like to do during the springtime!

This week Priya was our guest reader!  She read, Mr. Brown Can Moo!  Can you?  Mr. Brown can make all different sounds like dibble dibble and buzz buzz and splatt splatt!  Can you!  Priya was a great reader and our audience did a great job listening to the story!

April 1st - 5th

This week the Kindergarten class had two special events.  We had our field trip to Lankenau Hospital and we lead the entire school in a Lenten prayer service for the fourth week of Lent.  Both events were fantastic.  During our trip to Lankenau, the boys and girls learned six ways to take care of our bodies.  Here are the six ways:  drink plenty of water, eat healthy, exercise, get plenty of sleep, brush your teeth, and keep your body clean and germ free!  We had a great time and had lots of chances to participate.  Our prayer service was so nice and we would like to thank our parents and grandparents for attending.

We gathered in the lobby of the Education Center at Lankenau, and learned that our body has 206 bones and we have many arteries and blood vessels that travel throughout the body.

We learned about the food plate.  Some children helped placing foods in the correct spot on the food plate.

Learning about our muscles!

CJ showed us Mr. Bones!

We met Tuffy the Tooth and he helped us learn to keep our teeth healthy and clean!

Each student had a turn to speak on the microphone and share their message during the prayer service.

Here is a video of the class singing, May All Children.  This video was taken during one of our rehearsals.  I'm so proud of this class and thank you Mrs. Clay for teaching the students a beautiful song.

This week Marianne was our student reader.  She read, Big Shark, Little Shark by Anna Membrino.
The story was about big shark being very hungry and not being able to catch any of the fish because they were too fast.  It was fun story and Marianne was a great reader!

Have a great weekend!
