April 12th - April 16th

We are preparing for first grade by working independently and becoming more responsible for our work.  This week we worked on the main idea of a story and writing or drawing supporting topics.  We read a story about all things that can be science.  Check out some of our supporting topics.

We continue to work on telling time to the hour and half hour.  This week we matched digital time to the analog clock time.  Have your child practice telling time looking at the oven clock, microwave, or the television!

This week during science class, we learned about chemical reactions and mixing colors!  We used vinegar and food coloring to make new colors.  First, we made a prediction about what we thought two colors mixed together would make.  Next, we tested by mixing the two colors.  We were correct on every prediction!  Thank you, Mrs. Mueller for teaching us about colors!  Next, we added baking soda to the mixture and that caused our chemical reaction which was super cool to see!

Charlotte's Web Movable Alphabet sentences!  Using our character chart, each child chose a character from the story and wrote a sentence phonetically!  We are really enjoying the story so far!

Please pack at least two napkins (three if your child attends Plus) in your child’s lunch box everyday.

We are excited to begin our Mystery Reader program! Please refer to the email from Mrs. Barrera for more details and let me know if you would like to sign up to read to the class.

We will be having a school-wide waste free lunch day on Thursday, April 22nd, to celebrate Earth Day. More information can be found here.

Since we will be engaging in Earth Day activities on Thursday, April 22, students may wear their gym uniforms.

There will be a tag day on Friday, April 23, for Autism Awareness and Acceptance. Please bring in $1.00 and wear blue. All money raised will be donated to the Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support.
