Throughout the last two weeks, the students were learning about community in Spanish class. Mrs. DeLuca explained that the students learned the names of for the important places in la comunidad. She said each student was given a location to help create a group community using their knowledge of vocabulary and fun manipulatives from around the classroom! It was such a fun and cooperative lesson and the students really enjoyed it!
Our Montessori movable alphabet lesson this week was to write a sentence pertaining to the story we read in our reading group. One group wrote about what they know about the animals from the story, another group wrote about how they clean up things at home, and the last group wrote about a time they had to solve a problem.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
Decorated in our Irish green, the students enjoyed a free dress day wearing green and enjoying a fun directed drawing of a leprechaun with the guidance of Miss Webb! The students did a fantastic job and a huge thank you to Miss Webb for "directing us" in our drawing!
As we continue to get ourselves ready for First Grade, here is a small group of students working independently on a reading activity!
Happy Birthday, Fiona! Not only did we celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, we also celebrated Fiona's birthday!!
One day this week, we read the story, "Moving to Town" by Mattie Lou O'Kelley. It's a story about a family moving from their farm to a house in the city. It shares the details of a family packing up and traveling through hills and valleys and finally making it to the big city. It described the children's first experience seeing a zoo, eating in a restaurant, shopping downtown, and even going to a movie. After reading the story, it sparked a fantastic class conversation about things we see in the city to transportation to high rise buildings. Later that day during our free choice time, the students created their own version of "the city" using blocks and other manipulatives!
As I watched them build and listened to their conversations, I saw such collaboration and teamwork. I realized how much they enjoy each other and what a great "team" they are together. I am so proud to be their teacher!
