April 7th - 11th

Last week, we began reading the story, Charlotte's Web, by E.B. White.  The boys and girls have really enjoyed the first few chapters of the story.  We are using our imagination to set the scenery in our minds and envision what the characters are doing.  Throughout the next few weeks as we listen the story, we will focus on what friendship means, learn new vocabulary, and embark on a new adventure of chapter books! Ask your child what happened in the story today!  We are having fabulous discussions!

We have met some very interesting characters from our story so far!  Wilbur, who is a sweet little pig who just wants a friend.  Charlotte, who is a fierce looking spider, but has the kindest heart there is.  A nasty rat named Templeton, and a very proud goose and gander who live on Zuckerman's farm.  Stay tuned for lots of crafts and activities that have to do with the novel, Charlotte's Web!

A huge thank you to our mystery readers this week.  Arie's mom came in and read a special story called Arie's Day. This story was written by Arie's grandmother so it made it an extra special story to share with her classmates.

This week Kyla celebrated her birthday with a big surprise!  Kyla's dad came in during our library time to read to the class as a birthday surprise for Kyla!  It was so special!  We listened to the story, Rainbow Fish.

Our final mystery reader for this week was Benjamin's mom!  She also read the story Rainbow Fish and the kindergarten class loved hearing it again!  It's such a great book about friendship, sharing, and kindness.  Thank you for reading to the class!

We've been keeping a close eye on the seeds we planted last week.  Some changes have occurred over the last five days.  Some friends are starting to see sprouts in there cups.  Each week we will fill out our plant growing journal with any changes we see to our plants.

This will be a part of our Charlotte's Web unit.  We will use the stuffed animals for story telling, measuring with rulers, and graphing.  Please know your child MUST be willing to allow the stuffed animal to stay at school.  The stuffed animals will not go back and forth each day.

March 31st - April 4th

This week in science we learned about planting seeds.  We learned that seeds need soil, water, and sunlight to grow.  We looked at four different types of seeds: zinnias, marigolds, petunias, and nasturtiums.  Each seed was unique in style and shape.  Each student chose a seed they wanted to plant, then added soil to their cup, placed the seed into the soil and added some water.  The seeds can take up to 35 days to grow.  We will continue to look for changes in our flowers and water as needed!

We had another very special Kindergarten guest reader this week.  Tam read the story, Fox versus Winter to the class.  Tam did a fantastic job reading to the whole class and we really enjoyed the story!

A huge thank you to Justice's mom for being our first Mystery Reader!  We were so excited to have a mystery reader and are looking forward to having more!

This week we had another special Kindergarten guest reader.....Hassani!  Hassani has been practicing his story at home and wanted to share it with his classmates.  He read the story, Dick and Jane, We Look. Hassani did a fantastic job reading to the class and we really enjoyed the story!

Last week the kindergarten class did an experiment on sink or float? We tested certain objects to see if they would sink or float.  We talked about predictions and what it means to make a prediction in science.  We tested objects such as a wooden block, marker, cotton ball, quarter, a bristle block, a foam toy, and a Lego piece. The boys and girls had so much fun during science last week!

Last week, some of our friends read the story, The Mom and Pop Shop. This is a story from our reading series.  The story is about a family owning a small store in the neighborhood and described items found in a mom-and-pop type of store. The students created sentences about a store or shop in their community. We used our Montessori movable alphabet to write our sentences.

"I go to McDonald's."

"I go to the store with my dad."

"I like going to Target."

"I go to the robot store."

"I go to Trader Joe's with my mom."

Another group of friends read the story, Jack's Junk. This is a story from our reading series.  The story is about a boy who makes different creations out of things he finds around his house.  The students created sentences about making a creation out of things around their home.  We used the Montessori movable alphabet to create our sentences.  We really found this story to be funny!

"I am making a house out of magna tiles."

"I made an invention out of blocks."

"I'm making a big teddy bear out of foam."

"I'm making a house out of boxes."

"I'm making a mask out of paper."

"I made a helicopter out of a cardboard box."
